One common tactic in battle is to try and create the “fog of war” without succumbing to it yourself. Let’s see if we can try and put together a number of stories, and cut back the fog a little.
The story of the last change to the US Constitution, in fact, the only change George Washington seems to have weighed in on very heavily, is an interesting historical aside to our current issues with government. This last change clearly shows the Founders intended for the government to be more accountable to people, rather than less. When you get to the point where people are passing bills into law without actually reading them, you know a little accountability would go a long way. In fact, how many times would you get away with passing a report on to your boss that would set company direction for the foreseeable future without actually reading the report?
Of course, creating the “fog of war” is best done with a thousand little hits, rather than one big one. For instance, the campaign of ethics complaints against Sarah Palin illustrates how this works. You simply overwhelm anyone who is standing against you with a lot of minor, and unfounded, ethics complaints. The result is much like a distributed denial of service attack on a network, you just can’t get anything done because you’re spending all of your time fighting nonsense. Another favorite tactic is to destroy anyone who attacks your principles on a personal level. Joe the Plumber was given this treatment last year, and now Frank Ricci is starting to receive the same treatment, for filing the case that embarrassed Sonia Sotomayor. There is a liberal campaign on to destroy Mr. Ricci personally, by digging into his past, to discredit anything he says before the confirmation hearings on the “empathetic judge.” When you can’t win on the facts, resort to the politics of personal destruction.
Along the same path, one thing you always try to do when winning a battle is to break up the opposition into as many small groups as possible, preferably with “grassroots efforts.” This has the psychological effect of making you feel alone, outnumbered, and making the fight seem hopeless. One way of doing this is to invent false polls, or to spin the statistics so thing look different than they really are. The US Census is the biggest target, of course. Now that we have ACORN helping out with the census, and we have a leader who is a strong advocate of not actually counting people, but rather just wants to use “statistical methods” to figure out where people are, you can be assured that more elections will be stolen in the future, and conservatives will be pushed under the bus through false votes ever more often.
Another thing you can always do is to suppress any opposing evidence. The mainstream media is up to their necks in suppressed information, probably far more than we will ever know about, since they have decided to make it their business to support Mr. Obama at all costs—they’re even giving free advertising to government run car companies! One area where evidence is being suppresses is over the horrible state of government run healthcare throughout the world. The healthcare system in Massachusetts is falling apart, and you don’t hear much, if anything, about it.
It’s a challenge to try and cut through the fog the media, ACORN, and the Fabian socialists are creating, but doing so uncovers pieces of the truth that will often startle, and often anger, most folks. Hence, it’s well worth the effort.
